December 20, 2019

I am pleased to say It has been another exciting year at Active. We have continued our mission housing people with disabilities across Victoria from Warrnambool to Mildura, Wonthaggi and across Melbourne. We continued our Better Homes Better Lives Home Modifications Service and in May 2019 launched our Assistive Housing Hub in Partnership with Haven; Home, Safe.

Our team has settled in here at Preston and in July we merged in with Haven Home Safe with a shared mission to provide more and better housing for our clients.

Recently we welcomed Sheryl Batrouney our new Housing and Partnerships Manager (replacing Gabby Browne) and John Stewart Maintenance Coordinator (replacing Rob Byrne) to the team. I am confident they will make a big contribution to our efforts in 2020. We thank Gabby and Rob for all their efforts and wish them well.

This year has been a huge one for our board who managed a merger with Haven for the purpose of achieving more housing for people with disabilities. Our board members have guided Active for 21 years now and this was a challenging decision to find the best path forward for Active. We thank all board members and particularly our chair Warwick Cavanagh who has shown great leadership this this process. Three of our board members continue of the Haven Board and I am sure they will hold us to our challenge to provide more and better housing in the future.

As ever we farewell the year in traditional Active style with our Christmas party in Yarraville with 100 tenants and staff from our partner organisations in attendance. It was a great day, fantastic music and fun for everyone and presents all round. The Active Christmas party is the best day of the year at Active and we thank Carmela and Molly for all their efforts organizing the Christmas party.

Once again, our team have enjoyed working with and friendship, they have felt from our tenants across Victoria. We thank you all for your cooperation as we go through our daily work.

I offer a big thanks to our 120 trades and contractors who work around the clock doing all the work necessary to keep our properties safe and fit for their purpose. Thanks team you have done it again.

Our staff team have once again battled through many challenges but have not wavered from delivering our service in the best way they can every day. I thank them and I know that following our holiday break everyone is ready to go and work to provide an even better service next year.

Our office will be closing 3pm Tuesday 24thDecember. Otherwise we will only be closed for the public holidays.

Have a great holiday season and we look forward to working together again in 2020.
