Active Community Housing supports marriage equality. We believe it is a basic human right for everyone. We recognise the right of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) tenants, employees and members of our community, to live and work free of prejudice and discrimination. This includes the right to marry the partner of their choice.
For 18 years Active has provided housing and support for people with disabilities who require support to live in the community, including people from the LGBTQI community.
We believe it is important for us to publicly support marriage equality. We support members of the LGBTI community in your right to marry and your equal value as members of our community.
We have added our voice to the growing call for equal rights for all Australians in an open letter from not-for-profit organisations in support of marriage equality. (equalitycampaign.org.au)
“This is a difficult time for many people who may feel isolated or distressed. We want our LGTBQI community to know that Active stands with you at this time. Take care of yourselves. Active supports the Yes vote for marriage equality and we recognise that diversity in our community is strength.”
– Active Chair Warwick Cavanagh
